OVERVIEW

Eramet, a global mining and metallurgy group, has always prioritised safety. One of the five commitments on the group's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) roadmap is to ensure the health and safety of its employees and subcontractors and to achieve zero fatalities. Eramet operates in 20 countries, aspires to be known not only for its social responsibility but also for its strategic approach and management system. To assist in achieving this recognition, the Group has embarked on an ambitious transformation based on digitalization.

Given Eramet's focus, its environmental, health, and safety (EHS) capabilities were high on the digitalization agenda, especially given the company's existing fragmented approach that prevented key processes from being centralised. Eramet chose the Cority/ERM team based on the platform's capabilities.

Eramet partnered with ERM to conduct a digital EHS pilot for four of its sites using a Cority software as a service (SaaS) solution. ERM held a series of workshops to help fine-tune the solution's design, which includes event management, audits and inspections for compliance and assurance, and environmental reporting.

APPROACH

ERM used DevOps software to automate and monitor the final stages of user acceptance testing and the delivery of hypercar to a diverse user base that included train drivers, contractors, and site neighbours who had guest access to the solution. ERM also assisted in the migration of historical metrics and inspection data from Eramet's previous system to the new solution, which went live in May 2020 to more than 200 users at pilot sites in France, Gabon, and Senegal.

When an incident occurs, investigators and site managers are immediately notified, and corrective and preventive measures are implemented to avoid a similar situation in the future. Eramet was able to avoid the need to invest in additional modules as a result of enhancements to event reporting.

ERM's methods helped to minimise risk and maximise return by defining the scope and configuring the solution, as well as managing the implementation and training users. The team used custom workflows and templates to ensure the project was completed on time and to a high standard. Eramet can schedule inspections more frequently by using a standardised and centralised approach, which helps to foster site safety. Because of ERM's knowledge of the Cority solution and its relationship with the vendor, it was able to optimise the configuration process and recommend enhancements to support Eramet's specific use case. The solution's safety module, for example, was configured to allow even more employees and managers to log and categorise accidents and events using a browser, portal, or mobile web app, as well as specify GPS coordinates.

RESULT:

Eramet has been able to transform how it manages inspections as a result of the new system, which can be assigned to different team members and completed via standalone links if necessary. The solution can track the status of inspections, as well as corrective and preventative measures, to ensure that they are completed on time.

The solution also has extensive business intelligence capabilities, allowing reports and analytics to be generated on-demand and performance indicators to be viewed via real-time dashboards.
